The start of our two week adventure in Germany! Unfortunately Nick had managed to catch a cold off his workmate the day before we left, and by the second day in Germany I was crook too! Not a good start to our trip.
Nürnberg was great, we scored a great deal in a 4 star hotel which was as cheap as some hostels we stayed at so we made the most of it with big sleep ins! We spent the afternoon exploring the town and it's Christmas markets. Nürnberg is a lot smaller than I expected. The Christmas markets were great, much better than the ones in London with an array of different sights and smells; bratwurst, Glühwein (hot mulled wine), chocolate crepes, roasted nuts and millions of Christmas decorations. The stands were beautiful.
We also went for a walk up the hill to the Castle for great views back over the town and found the gothic fountain in the city square which has a gold ring in it's fence which will give you luck if you turn it.
Randomly we bumped into my old workmate Robin and his wife Grace who were even staying in the same hotel as us. Small world!
In the afternoon we took a bus out to the Documentation Museum at the Nazi Party Rally Grounds. It had tonnes of information about Nazi Germany, the Nuremberg trials and the old Party Rally Grounds. It was really interesting.
We headed back into town to see the Christmas markets by night but we had misjudged it and they shut really early... whoops!
